Context engine
A context engine is the layer that assembles the right approved information for an AI system at the moment of a request: it finds the passages that answer the question, applies the organization's access rules to what may be retrieved, and delivers only that context to the model.
Why the distinction matters
The model never decides what it is allowed to see. The context engine does, from the organization's own sources, in place, under the organization's own permissions. This is what separates an AI system you can deploy in a regulated function from one you cannot: the answer is built from governed context, and the record shows which context that was.
